Cozumel is an island, so the trip from Cancun Airport has two parts: a 45–60 minute drive to the ferry pier in Playa del Carmen and then a ferry crossing of about 35–45 minutes to San Miguel de Cozumel. Allow 2½–3 hours in total. Cozumel also has its own airport (CZM), but most international flights land in Cancun.

Transfer services

Meeting your driver at Cancun Airport

  1. Clear immigration and customs (e-gates in Terminals 3 and 4 issue a digital tourist card for eligible e-passports).
  2. Walk straight through the exit hall. Staff inside offering “free” transport or tours are mostly timeshare sellers – you do not need to stop.
  3. Outside the terminal, look for your driver or representative holding a sign with your name. Your confirmation email has the exact meeting point.

Flights land at Terminal 2, Terminal 3 or Terminal 4 depending on the airline – see the airline directory or check the live arrivals board. Drivers track your flight, so a delay is not a problem.

Other ways to get there

  • ADO bus + ferry – direct ADO bus from the airport to Playa del Carmen; the ferry pier is a short walk from the bus station.
  • Airport taxi or shared shuttle – sold at the official counters inside each terminal. Fares are set by zone and are usually higher than a pre-booked private transfer, and shared vans stop at several hotels.
  • Car ferry – a vehicle ferry runs from the Calica terminal south of Playa del Carmen if you want to take a rental car to the island.

About Cozumel
