Puerto Morelos is the closest Riviera Maya town to the airport: about 20 km (12 miles) south, a 20–25 minute drive on Highway 307. The fishing village and beach are east of the highway, and the resorts line the coast north and south of it.

Meeting your driver at Cancun Airport
- Clear immigration and customs (e-gates in Terminals 3 and 4 issue a digital tourist card for eligible e-passports).
- Walk straight through the exit hall. Staff inside offering “free” transport or tours are mostly timeshare sellers – you do not need to stop.
- Outside the terminal, look for your driver or representative holding a sign with your name. Your confirmation email has the exact meeting point.
Flights land at Terminal 2, Terminal 3 or Terminal 4 depending on the airline – see the airline directory or check the live arrivals board. Drivers track your flight, so a delay is not a problem.
Other ways to get there
- Tren Maya – one stop from the airport station to Puerto Morelos station, which is west of the highway and several km from the beach, so you will still need a taxi. The Tren Maya station is next to the airport but not walkable: take the station shuttle bus from your terminal (small fare). Trains are not hourly, so check the timetable and buy your ticket on the official Tren Maya website before you rely on it.
- Airport taxi or shared shuttle – sold at the official counters inside each terminal. Fares are set by zone and are usually higher than a pre-booked private transfer, and shared vans stop at several hotels.
- Rental car – rental desks and shuttles to off-site lots at every terminal; see car rental at Cancun Airport.
About Puerto Morelos
Puerto Morelos is a laid-back village with a protected reef just offshore, good for snorkelling, and a famous leaning lighthouse. It is quieter than Cancun or Playa del Carmen and popular with families and long-stay visitors. More in the Puerto Morelos guide.
