There are five main ways to leave Cancun Airport: a pre-booked transfer, the ADO bus, the Tren Maya, an airport taxi or shuttle, and a rental car. The best choice depends on where you are staying, how many of you there are and how much luggage you have.

Private airport transfers

Cancun Airport private transportation

A pre-booked private transfer is the simplest way to reach your hotel: your driver waits outside the terminal with a sign, tracks your flight and takes only your group, door to door. Prices are per vehicle, so they are often cheaper than a taxi for families and groups.

BOOK NOW

Some all-inclusive resorts include or sell their own airport transfer – check when you book your hotel.

ADO bus

ADO bus at Cancun Airport

ADO buses leave from outside Terminals 2, 3 and 4 to downtown Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Tickets are sold at the ADO counter in each terminal or online. It is the cheapest option, but if your hotel is far from the bus station the extra taxi can cancel out the saving. See the ADO bus guide.

Tren Maya

The Maya Train has a Cancun Airport station next to the airport, reached by a shuttle bus from the terminals (it is not walkable). Trains run south to Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, and west towards Valladolid and Mérida. Departures are not frequent and stations are outside town centres, so check the timetable on the official Tren Maya website and plan a taxi at the other end.

Car rental

Car rental at Cancun Airport

Renting a car makes sense if you want to explore cenotes, ruins and beaches on your own. Book ahead, check what insurance is included and allow time for the shuttle to an off-site lot. See car rental at Cancun Airport.

Taxis and shared shuttles

Taxis at Cancun Airport

Official taxis and shared vans are sold at counters inside every terminal (2, 3 and 4). Fares are fixed by zone and can be paid by card or cash. They are convenient if you have not booked anything, but usually cost more than a pre-booked private transfer, and shared vans stop at several hotels on the way.

Meeting your driver at Cancun Airport

  1. Clear immigration and customs (e-gates in Terminals 3 and 4 issue a digital tourist card for eligible e-passports).
  2. Walk straight through the exit hall. Staff inside offering “free” transport or tours are mostly timeshare sellers – you do not need to stop.
  3. Outside the terminal, look for your driver or representative holding a sign with your name. Your confirmation email has the exact meeting point.

Flights land at Terminal 2, Terminal 3 or Terminal 4 depending on the airline – see the airline directory or check the live arrivals board. Drivers track your flight, so a delay is not a problem.

FAQ

What is the cheapest way to get from Cancun Airport to my hotel?
The ADO bus is the cheapest if your hotel is near a bus station in downtown Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Tulum. For families and groups, a private transfer priced per vehicle is often cheaper than several bus tickets plus a taxi.
Can I get a taxi at Cancun Airport?
Yes, official taxis and shared shuttles are sold at counters inside each terminal, at fixed zone fares.
Is Uber available at Cancun Airport?
Ride-hailing pickups at the airport are restricted and can change, so do not rely on them. Pre-book a transfer or use the official counters.
Which terminal will I arrive at?
It depends on your airline: Terminal 3 for most US carriers, Terminal 4 for Aeroméxico, Southwest, JetBlue, WestJet and most European airlines, and Terminal 2 for Volaris, Viva Aerobus and Latin American airlines. See terminals.
