How to get from Cancun Airport to the Isla Mujeres ferry

Puerto Juárez is about 30 km from Cancun Airport, a 25–35 minute drive. There is no ferry or direct public transport from the terminal to the pier, so you have three options:

  • Private transfer (recommended): your driver meets you outside the terminal, waits if your flight is late and drops you at the Ultramar pier. From 54 USD one way or 84 USD round trip per vehicle for up to 8 people. See all transfer options and prices to Isla Mujeres.
  • Taxi: airport taxis have fixed, fairly high fares and only the authorised companies can pick up at the terminal.
  • ADO bus + taxi: the ADO bus goes from the terminals to downtown Cancun; from the bus station it is a short taxi ride to Puerto Juárez. Cheapest, but slow with luggage.

Book your transfer to the Isla Mujeres ferry

Coming back, book the return transfer for at least 3 hours before your flight and take a ferry that leaves the island with time to spare.

Tips for the crossing

  • Buy tickets at the pier ticket office; at Puerto Juárez lines are short most of the day.
  • Sit on the upper deck for the view, or inside if the sea is choppy – the crossing can be bumpy on windy days.
  • Suitcases are allowed on Ultramar and stored near the entrance; keep valuables with you.
  • Avoid people offering “free” or discounted ferry tickets in exchange for a timeshare presentation.
  • On the island, the ferry arrives in the town centre, a few minutes’ walk from Playa Norte. Golf carts and taxis wait at the dock.
