Meeting your driver at Cancun Airport
- Clear immigration and customs (e-gates in Terminals 3 and 4 issue a digital tourist card for eligible e-passports).
- Walk straight through the exit hall. Staff inside offering “free” transport or tours are mostly timeshare sellers – you do not need to stop.
- Outside the terminal, look for your driver or representative holding a sign with your name. Your confirmation email has the exact meeting point.
Flights land at Terminal 2, Terminal 3 or Terminal 4 depending on the airline – see the airline directory or check the live arrivals board. Drivers track your flight, so a delay is not a problem.
Other ways to get there
- ADO bus – buses leave the Cancun downtown terminal several times a day and take about 5 h 20 min to 5 h 45 min; from the airport, first ride an ADO bus to downtown. Bacalar’s bus station is on Highway 307, about 2 km from the main square. See the ADO bus guide.
- Tren Maya – around two direct trains a day from the Cancun Airport station take about 4.5 hours. The airport station is reached by shuttle bus from the terminals, and Bacalar station is a few km outside town, so you need a taxi at the end. Check fares and times on the official Tren Maya website.
- Fly to Chetumal – Chetumal Airport (CTM), 40 km from Bacalar, has flights from Mexico City only, so it suits travelers already in Mexico.
- Rental car – Highway 307 is toll-free and easy to drive, but avoid driving after dark. See car rental at Cancun Airport.
