September was a month for the Cancun International Airport, during the summer holidays Cancun Airport broke records on air traffic. The tourism sector in the Mexican territory is still recovering from the COVID-19 disease, although the passenger levels have exceeded the pre-pandemic numbers according to an announcement made by ASUR.

The aerial hub has informed that it transported 1.66 million passengers in September 2021, which represents an increase of 4.4% compared with September 2019.

There is a huge potential that passenger levels at the Cancun Airport this year could exceed the total amount of visitors in 2019, in accordance with the latest air traffic reports. In addition,  Mexico does not request a mandatory quarantine, either a negative covid test to enter Mexico which has contributed to more visitors deciding to choose Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

According to the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, CPTQ, and the National Migration Institute, INM, revealed that 38% more travelers from the United States arrived in the Mexican Caribbean this year than in 2019.
