How to get from Mérida to Cancun
There are no scheduled flights between Mérida and Cancun – travelling by land is quicker. By car the drive is about 300 km on the 180D toll highway (3.5–4 hours, with an easy stop at Chichén Itzá). ADO buses take about 4–4.5 hours to downtown Cancun, with a few daily departures straight to Cancun Airport. The Tren Maya runs from Mérida (Teya) to the Cancun Airport station in about 3.5 hours via Izamal, Chichén Itzá and Valladolid.
Arriving at Cancun Airport
If you are flying out of Cancun after visiting Mérida, allow at least 3 hours before an international flight on top of the journey. The Tren Maya has its own Cancun Airport station and some ADO buses go straight to the terminals; a private transfer is the easiest way from your hotel in Cancun or the Riviera Maya to the airport.
