When traveling to Playa del Carmen you need to go thru the Cancun Airport which is about 45 minutes from the city of Playa del Carmen in the middle of the Riviera Maya.

You also need to go thru Playa del Carmen if you are going to Cozumel when arriving to the Cancun Airport. You need to take the ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel which takes about 30 minutes to cross leaving every hour and it's first come first served.
